1. Stay Organized
Do the homework that is set for you that day if you can.
Go over class notes so that you understand what you have learnt in lessons.
Keep workbooks and worksheets neat as this will help you maintain a positive mindset and hopefully prevent you from feeling overwhelmed.
Try to memorise the layout of the school and when and where your classes are.
Go through your timetable and pack your bag the night before.
2. Take Advantage of Opportunities
You should take advantage of your opportunities. Attend clubs and extracurricular activities such as sports teams that your form teacher will inform you about.
Work hard and focus on all of your subjects. Try to keep an open and positive mindset as you might end up enjoying subjects you didn’t initially like.
3. Revise for End of Topic Tests
Revise in the way that you feel comfortable. This could be either making flashcards or doing practice questions.
A good flashcard website is Quizlet and if you would like some practice questions you can ask your teacher and they will help you.
4. Be Friendly to Everyone
Try your best to be friendly to everyone and create strong friendships. These will last through your time at school and might develop into lifelong friendships. Developing friendships with good people will give you a companion to help you during your time at school and will help you during difficult times.
Be polite to your teachers and members of staff, you will spend so much time with them over the years, it's important to have mutual respect.
5. Stay in Touch with ‘Old’ Friends
Even though you may be going to a different school than some of your friends from primary school or your town, it is important to stay in touch with them even as you form new friendships. This will help you form a larger friendship group that will give you confidence as you move through life.
6. Make Good Impressions on Teachers
Teachers are there to help you, yes it's their job, but they still do a lot for us, so be grateful, ask them how they are, help them in class by following their instructions, say thank you etc.
If you are nice to your teachers, this will be sure to help you in the long run as it is likely that you will be taught by them again.
7. Try to have full attendance.
If you miss just two weeks of school that means you have fifty lessons to catch up on!
Being behind is tricky when the entire class is ahead of you and you have to keep up.
Luckily everything is posted on Google Classroom these days, but if you're stuck or unsure, ask your friends or your teachers to help you
