The blockbuster fixture of this weekend was of course Liverpool vs Manchester City. The annual ‘title deciding’ game did not disappoint - both teams went all out for a win, resulting in an open and exciting game of football. A Salah penalty gave Liverpool the lead in the 13th minute but this was cancelled out by a Gabriel Jesus strike 15 minutes before half time. Neither team would score again, despite their attempts. Manchester United took the three points at Everton, as the toffees continue their struggle after the mini injury crisis they suffered following a perfect start to the campaign. Ancelotti’s men were lacklustre, with little creativity going forward. This win also guaranteed Ole would stay in the job for at least another week.
Finally, we are caught up to the most recent batch of results, in which we saw Liverpool beat Leicester 3-0 and Manchester City lose 2-0 to Spurs. This has caused a resurgence in the Pep-Mourinho conversation, and has also reiterated the fact that not only is Jose Moutinho still a world class manager, but he has engineered his Spurs team to be rightfully considered title contenders. They sit at the top of the table, going into matchweek 10, they have two world class attackers in Son and Kane, with Bale an option from the bench, and defensive solidity at the back, not to mention one of the best keepers in the league on top of that. Could this finally be Tottenham’s year?
